Essays should be normally between 5000 and 8000 words in length (excluding notes). Details of the journal’s conventions can be found in the Style Guide.

The journal operates a peer-review system, which means that articles submitted to the journal will normally be considered by at least two experts in the field. These experts read submissions and write readers’ reports which vary in length and detail according to their response to the article submitted.

The acceptance rate has varied considerably from year to year, from 25% to over 50%.

No multiple submissions are allowed; i.e articles should not be submitted to another academic journal simultaneously.


The journal is the copyright holder for its contents. Articles will be published with the conditions set out at this Creative Commons site:

Authors will be required to acknowledge these conditions before publication.
